Student Research Competition

We are pleased to carry on the Student Research Competition after more than 20 years of the Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs (AEHAP) providing graduates and undergraduates an opportunity to showcase their research projects.

The Student Research Competition is a chance for graduate and undergraduate students to showcase their research projects. Each competition participant has an opportunity to earn:

  • Registration, flight, hotel, and per diem to our 2025 Annual Education Conference & Exhibition (AEC)
  • A small cash stipend
  • An opportunity to present your research in a poster presentation or educational session at the AEC
  • Recognition in our Journal of Environmental Health

Applications will open on Tuesday, October 1, 2025.

2025 Submission Guidelines

Provide a Structured Abstract of up to 800 words/2-3 pages (excluding references). Do not include personal or school identifying information.

Structured Abstract Format

  • Title: Research Project
  • Introduction: Include a clear differentiation of your work/research from examined current or past similar work or literature. Include examined related works within your references.
  • Objective: Describe the primary objective of the research project.
  • Methodology: Clearly state all materials and methods used in the work must and use subtitles when necessary.
  • Results: Clearly state your results, include tables and graphs as appropriate.
  • Conclusions: Conclude your work incorporating your most important finding, who would benefit from knowing the findings, potential future works, as well as recommendations informed by your research project.
  • References: Include all references used. This will not be counted in page length.

Eligibility

  • Attend an environmental health academic program that is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC) for or programs.

Selection Criteria

Each project will be reviewed by 3 judges using a scoring rubric that includes:

  • Originality
  • Scientific rigor
  • Relevance to Environmental Health Science and Protection

Notification

We will notify participants and award winners via email by April 15, 2025
